TRIP PREP 101

I have a friend who is recently home from her adoption trip, and one of her pieces of advice was: Take plenty of medicines for you and Jimmy! The pollution is terrible in China, and a fair amount of adoption travelers come up with colds, viruses, allergies etc. while on their trip. Not to mention tummy issues, for which I am notorious anyway. So yesterday, while buying groceries, I spent a good little chunk of change on medication overkill. I actually got generic on about half the stuff, and still spent $60 bucks. Here's what we got: Dayquill and Nyquill, Clariton, eye drops, cough drops, bynadryl, pepto bismol, immodium, advil, spray on band aid, hydrocortisone cream, and the MOST important item: 2 containers of dramamine. I understand we will have several bus and plane trips to get through, and Jimmy is bound and determined that we are going to take the high speed train from Guangzhou back to Hong Kong instead of flying. He wants to see the country side. Perhaps he's forgotten the bus ride from hell that we took in Punta Cana? the one where I became deathly ill on the bus trying to "see the countryside?"and I have a strong feeling that the windows on a train DO NOT OPEN. Posted by Picasa And trust me, there are few humiliations in life that can match speeding down the road on a bus full of strangers, throwing up out the window. So I'm going to "practice" by taking the dramamine and riding Marta (our city train here in Atlanta) all the way to the end of the route and back. If the dramamine gets me through that 2 hour train ride without being sick, then Jimmy gets his high speed train. Wish him luck.

Congratulations! Not to worry about the high speed train -- it really is no different than a ride on Amtrak -- actually much nicer. The train is clean and comfortable and certainly a pleasant way to travel even with a new baby.
